When it came to its design, the aluminium bodied 458 Italia differed from its predecessor, the F430, with its retro-inspired styling cues and moved closer to the high-tension design of the flagship Enzo Ferrari with a sharper, lower silhouette that exuded a more organic vibe.
The front end underwent a radical reduction in height, aimed at minimising aerodynamic drag and bestowing the 458 Italia with a modern face free of the grille designs that had adorned the previous bloodline of 8-cylinder cars.
The semi-exposed rear lights made a return also mimicking the Enzo, this time in the form of just two units, but the real highlight of the rear end was a three-piece exhaust system nestled within the heart of the rear diffuser. This nod to another special series flagship; the legendary Ferrari F40 that added the touch of heritage to the design.
Notably, the 458 Italia bid farewell to a longstanding mid-engine Ferrari characteristic, the rear-side air ducts. Traditionally, these functional aerodynamic features had resided on the rear flanks, serving primarily to cool the gearbox and oil radiators, dating back from the Dino 246 to the F430.
However, Ferrari's innovative engineering led to a complete overhaul of the engine compartment and internal architecture in the 458 Italia. Consequently, the 458 Italia showcased a sleek and uninterrupted side profile. Simultaneously, the air ducts were relocated behind the engine cover, channelling air from the front, over the flanks and tops of the wheel arches, and into the rear spoiler. This clever redesign not only cooled the internal components but also enhanced rear downforce while reducing aerodynamic drag.
This unique example benefits from a full Ferrari service history from its supplying dealer and has covered just 3,725 miles in the custody of the original purchaser. Specifying the car handsomely, the owner also instructed two Special Request Items - The exterior side sills to be painted in Giallo Modena and the wheels to be painted Gloss Black, both carried out by the supplying dealer Maranello Sales prior to delivery. The car retains original items such as its tyres, and would be well suited to join any Ferrari collection. It has recently returned from its latest service and MOT, and ready for its next custodian.
